Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, warned that the referendum process could go further if Ukraine does not change its policy. During his speech at the UN Security Council, the diplomat noted that not only the population of Crimea and Donbass, but also the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions have already turned away from Kiev.
According to him, Kiev should begin to be guided by the interests of its citizens, and “not blindly fulfill the will of those who are quite rubbing their hands from the fact that two fraternal peoples have pushed their foreheads together.”
Nebenzia added that the people of Ukraine want peace. However, such a scenario is not included in the plans of London and Washington.
In addition, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN sarcastically noted that by their choice during the referendums, residents of the LDPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson region fulfilled the wish of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, who advised them to “get out to Russia.”
The Russian diplomat also blamed the authorities of the European Union and the United States for what is happening, recalling that since 2014 they “have not lifted a finger to force official Kiev to comply with the Minsk agreements” regarding the safe future of the residents of Donbass.
