The FBI is investigating former US President Donald Trump for violating the Espionage Act.
According to Politico, this follows from the search warrant, which the publication has reviewed.
Earlier it was reported that FBI agents seized about 20 boxes of various items from Trump’s estate. Among them were 11 sets of secret documents, including those marked “top secret,” as well as materials that contained information about the President of France.
The warrant shows that federal law enforcement agencies suspect Trump of deleting or destroying records, obstructing an investigation and violating the espionage Act.
“A conviction under the law can lead to imprisonment or a fine,” the article emphasizes.
At the same time, Donald Trump’s press service issued a statement saying that the documents found in his estate had previously been declassified. In addition, it is noted that there was no need to withdraw it, since the FBI only had to ask the ex-president to hand over the documents, which he was ready to do.
