The Reuters news agency, citing unnamed deputies, said that at the moment Western countries are not proposing new restrictive measures against Russia, because they are afraid of low support for these initiatives from other countries.

According to the agency’s interlocutors, an increasing number of countries are now refusing to publicly criticize Moscow.

“In some cases, representatives of Western countries shy away from concrete steps because they are afraid of low support. This is due to the growing number of those who abstained from voting and the growing reluctance to publicly speak out against Russia,” the newspaper notes.

According to Richard Govan, a researcher at the UN University, it is now becoming increasingly difficult to find “reasonable ways to punish” Moscow. He clarified that in the future, support for sanctions against Russia will decrease, since the March UN resolutions were the highest point.
