EU sanctions should hit Russian citizens, Estonian Prime Minister Kaya Kallas said in an interview with the Associated Press.
In her opinion, this is how Russians should pay for the support of President Vladimir Putin.
“Sanctions are an economic tool in the hands of the European Union. I think their effect should be felt by the population of Russia, because Putin has high support within the country,” she said.
Earlier, Callas stated that it was unacceptable to return to previous business relations with Russia, and that such relations “should not exist in principle.” In her opinion, the West should not be afraid of the deterioration of relations with Russia and even their complete rupture.
The day before, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Russians in everyday life will feel the effect of sanctions imposed after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. At the same time, he stressed that he does not want sanctions to bring suffering to Russians.
