German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, after a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that Putin does not yet realize that the decision to launch a special military operation in Ukraine was a mistake. This is reported by Reuters.

The conversation between Putin and Scholz took place on Tuesday and lasted an hour and a half. The Chancellor called on the Russian president “to find a diplomatic solution as soon as possible based on a ceasefire, the complete withdrawal of Russian troops and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.”

Scholz also warned Putin that any steps taken by the Russian authorities will not go unanswered.

The Kremlin press service informed that Vladimir Putin in the conversation “focused the attention of Scholz on the blatant violations of international humanitarian law by the Ukrainian side, the incessant shelling of the cities of Donbass, as a result of which civilians are killed and civilian infrastructure is deliberately damaged.”

Shortly before the conversation with Putin, Scholz had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. He assured him of Berlin’s support.

The Russian authorities emphasize that the special military operation will continue until the set goals are achieved.

On the eve of the State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said at the first meeting of the autumn session that “time has shown once again the correctness of the decision taken by our president to launch a special military operation.”

On Wednesday, Volodin called on deputies to discuss the details of the special operation behind closed doors.
