The Slovenian authorities will transfer 28 M-55S tanks (modernized Soviet T-55s) to Kiev as military aid. In return, Ljubljana will receive 40 trucks from Berlin as part of a round-trip exchange.
This was reported on the website of the Slovenian government following a telephone conversation between Prime Minister Robert Golob and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
According to the Telegram channel “Militarist”, the receipt of such obsolete tanks with a separate caliber (105 mm) indicates the almost complete exhaustion of free T-72 tanks in Eastern Europe.
On the other hand, this may mean that the United States supplies both 105-mm howitzer and tank shells to Ukraine. Thus, it is possible that obsolete Western Leopard 1 and AMX 30 tanks equipped with guns of this caliber will be delivered to Ukraine next. Deliveries of the American M1A1 Abrams and British Challenger 1, also having 105-mm guns, seem unlikely.
