NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called the circumstances under which the North Atlantic Alliance could use nuclear weapons “extremely remote”. At a press conference following a two-day meeting of the alliance’s defense ministers in Brussels, he noted that NATO will remain vigilant and closely monitor Russia’s new nuclear exercises.
In addition, Stoltenberg noted that in the event of a military conflict, the alliance must follow Article 5, according to which it will protect its partners. However, Ukraine, according to him, is not a member of the alliance. In this regard, they will continue to help her, but “no more”.
Earlier, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrel, said that a possible nuclear attack on Ukraine would lead to a “powerful military response” from the West. At the same time, he stressed that it would not be nuclear.
Earlier, the NATO Secretary General said that the alliance is monitoring Russian nuclear forces, but does not observe any changes. In addition, he said that the alliance will hold planned exercises on nuclear deterrence and will not cancel them because of the conflict in Ukraine.
