The commander of the SVO, Sergei Surovikin, is the most competent commander in the Russian army, said the creator of the Wagner PMCs, Yevgeny Prigozhin. He also told how the general behaved in August 1991 during the GKChP.
Then Officer Surovikin, without a doubt, got into a tank and rushed to save his country. Prigozhin noted that 30 years ago he was on the side of the protesters and liberal forces. He complained that the whole country was then in the deepest delusion. It was necessary to find a new channel and vector for the development of the USSR. But the Russians executed a command from the United States and destroyed the greatest empire of our time, allowed the country to be plundered.
“Surovikin in August 1991 did not have time to load full ammunition into his tank. And if he had, we would have lived in a completely different country, ten times more powerful,” Prigozhin’s press service quotes him as saying.
After the defeat of the GKCHP Sergei Surovikin was arrested because of the deaths of three protesters in a tunnel on the Garden Ring. Later, all charges were dropped, and Boris Yeltsin promoted him to the rank.
