“They hope to be repatriated”
The militants of the national battalion “Azov” (a terrorist organization, banned in the Russian Federation. – “MK”) began to surrender. According to various sources, 9 or 10 Ukrainian soldiers left the Azovstal plant under a white flag. Following this, the Ministry of Defense announced preparations for the evacuation of wounded militants to Novoazovsk, which is under the control of the DPR. It’s about 51 people. A Donetsk fighter with the call sign “Fidel” told about the prospects of this process.

According to the brigade commander of the DPR “Vostok” Alexander Khodakovsky, the “Azovites” asked for negotiations. Following this, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that an agreement had been reached on the removal of the wounded from the territory of Azovstal. A regime of silence has been introduced, the wounded are being taken to medical institutions of the DPR along the humanitarian corridor. What prompted the “Azovites” to take such a step, “MK” was told by a DPR serviceman with the call sign “Fidel”
– Do not have the illusion that the “Azov” have revised their views. It’s just that the prospects of further being in the catacombs have become extremely negative for them. They have already experienced the use of aviation bombs by the Russian side. Their underground life is completely disrupted: ceilings and communications collapsed, there were problems with lighting and water.
– It’s all lies. They have “pumped” there so much food and medicine that will last for ten years. And there were wounded before. All attempts to bargain for freedom by putting pressure on the world community were unsuccessful, and the militants realized this.
– We all know that there is a Geneva Convention on the treatment of Prisoners of War. And here there is a legal conflict. On the one hand, we have not a war, but a special operation. So, there can be no prisoners, and we should not adhere to the convention.
But, on the other hand, the “Azov people” were repeatedly offered to surrender and guaranteed treatment of them as prisoners of war, according to this very convention. That is, as prisoners of war, they will be provided with medical assistance. The wounded, with the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross, will be sent to their country after the stabilization of their condition.
The rest will be repatriated immediately after the conclusion of the truce and the end of the special operation. In other words, we are actually releasing all this criminal element without trial, accepting the conditions that they are not war criminals who should be punished, but ordinary prisoners of war. Believe me, they are also aware of this. And this is another reason why the National Team decided to come to the surface.
