The EU authorities do not rule out that the Russian payment system “Mir” may fall under sanctions if Moscow does not stop the fighting in Ukraine.
According to the representative of the head of European diplomacy Peter Stano, now the issue of imposing such sanctions is being discussed, but the discussions “are confidential.”
“We do not exclude this, any sanctions measures are possible,” he clarified to Izvestia.
Stano also commented on media reports about pressure from Washington and Brussels on the Turkish authorities to stop “Russia’s evasion of sanctions.” He stressed that Turkey should coordinate its foreign policy with the EU, since it is a candidate for joining the union.
“Ankara should not help Moscow circumvent the sanctions imposed by European countries. We will closely monitor the situation in this regard,” he concluded.
