The EU does not exclude the possibility of Hungary’s withdrawal from the European Union in the light of Budapest’s recent actions. This was stated by the Czech Government Minister for European Affairs Mikulas Bek in an interview with the Czech radio station iROZHLAS. The Czech Republic currently holds the presidency of the European Union.
Beck stressed that negotiations in the EU are often difficult. But at the same time, Hungary, as he believes, is on the edge of a kind of abyss and now has to decide whether to move away from it or jump.
Beck also said that in the coming months he will be engaged in “keeping Hungary in the European mainstream.” He noted a small positive signal for the EU – Budapest’s refusal to demand that three oligarchs be removed from the EU sanctions list.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has repeatedly called for the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions. In his opinion, they are ineffective.
