Lieutenant General, Director of the Intelligence Department of the US Department of Defense Scott Berrier expressed his personal opinion that Russian President Vladimir Putin may change the goals of conducting a special operation on the territory of Ukraine.
“Now we have come to the moment when, I think, Putin will have to reconsider the goals of his operation,” the Associated Press agency reports the words of the head of the Pentagon intelligence, said at a national security conference.
Berrier evasively noted that we are talking about a certain “current situation” and limited resources.
At the same time, the American general admitted that US intelligence does not know what the decision of the Russian leader will be, but assumes that the Russian president will take into account how long the conflict will last.
In turn, the deputy director of the CIA, David Cohen, who spoke next, said that American intelligence does not see concrete evidence of Moscow’s planning to use weapons of mass destruction in Ukraine.
American generals probably believe that Western sanctions will have a significant impact on Russia. However, while the energy crisis is growing in Europe, it can seriously shake public opinion and influence the decisions made by politicians. As for his own, Vladimir Putin noted on the eve of the SCO summit thatthe offensive operation in the Donbass by Russian troops does not stop and the Russian army gradually occupies more and more new territories. He also drew attention to the fact that Russia uses only part of the army. “The plan is not subject to adjustment… The main goal is the liberation of the entire territory of Donbass,” Putin stressed.
