First Deputy Chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on Mass Media Alexander Malkevich took the initiative to ban the use of the WhatsApp messenger by Russian officials. He recommended that they switch to Telegram.
“I urge to force all officials to finally switch from WhatsApp to Telegram. This messenger has proven itself well. It has channels for all authorities, it is in demand by journalists and ordinary users. Telegram is easy to use, and perfectly protected, there were no cases of personal data leaks, ” Malkevich said in an interview with the publication.
He noted that WhatsApp periodically tightens the rules and ” appropriates the right to dispose of personal data.” But despite all the disadvantages, it remains a popular messenger among parliamentarians.
“Officials often call each other and send documents, including tender and financial documents, to WhatsApp. I admit that at the level of departmental orders, it is possible to prohibit officials from using WhatsApp, ” Malkevich added.
