French prosecutors are demanding six months in prison for ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy. In addition, the prosecution requested for the defendant another six months of probation and a fine of 3,750 euros. This is reported by BFM.TV.
Sarkozy is accused of illegally financing the 2012 election campaign. It is noted that the cost of it is almost twice higher than allowed.
The former president himself was absent from the meeting. The trial began on May 20. Together with Sarkozy, there are 13 other defendants on it.
In early March, the former president already received a prison sentence. The court sentenced him to two years in prison for corruption, abuse of power and violation of the secrecy of the investigation.
