The Russian ones operating in Ukraine have received a batch of the latest army sniper rifles Chukavin (microwave) for experimental combat operation.
A source in the military-industrial complex told reporters about this.
The special forces were armed with rifles for a domestic sniper cartridge of 7.62 by 54 millimeters.
The microwave-308 (Chukavin sniper Rifle) is a Russian sniper rifle chambered in 7.62×54 mm. Designed to hit single targets at ranges up to 1200 m. Produced by Izhevsk Machine-building Plant.
The design of the rifle is based on the little-known small-sized machine gun by E. F. Dragunov (automaton MA), developed in 1973 and is a curtain scheme. With this arrangement, all the main elements of the weapon are mounted on a solid upper tire with guides 10 mm thick. All other elements can be unloaded and made of plastic or light alloys. In classical schemes SVD and AK there are no upper guides, and the bolt carrier moves along the lower ones, here on the contrary — the bolt carrier and the bolt move along the upper tire.
The massive barrel, made by rotary forging, is attached to the tire through the liner, while being a single rigid assembly. In addition to the gas chamber, there are no barrel fittings on the trunk of the microwave-308
The lower part of the rifle contains a firing mechanism housing with a fuse and a base with a magazine receiver.
The weapon’s automation works on the principle of removing powder gases with a short stroke of the piston and is borrowed from the reliable Dragunov rifle system. The rifle has a manual gas regulator.
The ammunition supply of weapons today is carried out with classic cartridges of 7.62 × 54 mm and ammunition of 8.6 × 70 mm. The weapon uses a magazine from the SVD with a capacity of 10 rounds; there are also magazines for 15 and 20 rounds.
The fuse of the microwave-308 rifle is placed on both sides of the weapon, which ensures maximum convenience of using the weapon.
The rifle has a folding telescopic stock with an adjustable cheek.
