The sixth package of EU anti-Russian sanctions has been blocked. This was announced on Wednesday, May 18, by European Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni.
At the same time on Wednesday, the European Commission presented on Wednesday a plan for the European energy reform REPowerEU, which is seen as a way to end dependence on Russian energy carriers. The EC communique says that the reform is designed both to end the EU’s dependence on Russia for this article of import, and to solve the climate problem. The measures proposed by the EC are energy conservation, diversification of energy supply and acceleration of the deployment of renewable energy sources.
As part of the sixth package, the EU countries planned to impose an embargo on Russian oil, which a number of states that are heavily dependent on this energy carrier refuse to support.
At the same time, Germany stated that they intend to abandon the import of Russian oil by the end of this year, regardless of whether the European Union comes to a joint decision.
