The US Foreign Ministry has published explanations informing about the extension of recommendations for US citizens not to visit Russia.
“US citizens are advised to refrain from traveling to Russia, especially to the North Caucasus, including Chechnya and Mount Elbrus, due to the risk of abduction, as well as to the Republic of Crimea,” the State Department’s recommendations say.
The basis for this decision is a number of detentions (unjustified in the opinion of the US authorities) of American citizens in Russia.
