On the night of Sunday to Monday, the US Air Force struck several targets in Syria and one in Iraq. The incident was reported by The New York Times, citing sources in the Joe Biden administration.
It is noted that recently pro-Iranian armed groups in Iraq have begun to use drones, which may be sent to them from Tehran. They are used to attack American military instructors and CIA employees who are in Iraq. The Air Force strike was carried out precisely on the base where the drones were located.
The other two strikes fell on the territory of Syria, in buildings used as warehouses. According to the White House, there were very few people at these facilities during the strikes.
The possibility of launching strikes was previously voiced by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces (AF) of the United States General Mark Milley. But the decision was made by Biden himself, according to Pentagon press Secretary John Kirby, to “eliminate the threat” to American servicemen in the region.
