In the United States, consideration of the abolition of a number of duties on goods from China will be postponed. The reason for this decision was the military-political escalation around Taiwan after the visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi there, according to Reuters, citing sources.

Previously, it was planned to gradually weaken the duties imposed under the previous US President Donald Trump as part of the “trade war” with China. The Joe Biden administration, according to agency sources, considered the possibility of canceling a number of tariffs, expanding the list of exceptions for American companies in terms of trade relations with China.

However, in the current situation of aggravation, according to the interlocutors of Reuters, the US authorities will rather seek to avoid being considered “retreating in the face of the aggression of a communist country.” Likewise, Washington avoids actions that could provoke further escalation.

Recall that relations between China and the United States have been strained for several years. Thus, under President Trump, who declared a policy of reindustrialization of the country and proclaimed China the main foreign policy competitor, restrictions were imposed in the form of duties on Chinese goods and sanctions against a number of large Chinese companies. In particular, the supply of the latest equipment for the production of microprocessors to China is prohibited.

At the same time, Taiwan is the world leader in the production of microchips, the territory of which the PRC considers its own and continues its course towards the gradual integration of the island. However, after the escalation of military and political actions after Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, Beijing decided to demonstrate a significant scale of force in Taiwanese waters.
