The US authorities will continue to impose new sanctions against Russian companies that participate in the Nord Stream-2 project. This was stated by assistant to US President Joe Biden Jake Sullivan on CNN.
In addition, Washington is preparing a new package of sanctions on the situation with Alexei Navalny. “We are preparing another package of sanctions to apply in this case,” Sullivan said.
Prior to this, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed with Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau the threat posed by the construction of Nord Stream 2. The Americans believe that this project threatens the energy security of the European Union. According to Washington, the basis of Europe’s energy security is a reduction in the supply of hydrocarbons from Russia. That is why the Russian pipeline has become the main threat.
Americans have long opposed the project. They need to sell their liquefied natural gas to the EU. Washington has imposed sanctions on construction contractors for the third year in a row.
