The West does not need to accept Ukraine into NATO now, writes The Washington Post.

“There is no need for Western leaders to do anything about this difficult issue,” the article says. According to the editorial board, the West should instead introduce a ceiling on Russian oil prices and provide Europe with energy for the winter.
The article also notes that the US and the EU need to influence China, India and Turkey, which can influence Russia.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, said that Kiev expects accelerated accession to NATO, and submitted an appropriate application. The American permanent representative to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said that Greenfield noted that Washington would continue to support Ukraine in “protecting itself,” but each country would consider the possibility of granting Kiev membership in NATO independently. German Foreign Minister AnnalenaOn the issue of Ukraine’s membership in NATO, Berbok spoke even more restrained. She noted that Berlin seeks to prevent other countries from being drawn into the conflict, although it supports Ukraine, including with heavy weapons. The White House said that “now is not the time” for the process of Ukraine’s admission to NATO. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also said that currently the goal is only to help Ukraine.
