Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Irina Vereshchuk said that school teachers from Russia were detained in the districts of the Kharkiv region, over which the AFU established control after the announced regrouping of troops by the Russian Defense Ministry. According to her, teachers who came from the Russian Federation taught a Russian program for local children in Kharkiv schools, Ukrainian media write.
Vereshchuk said that the detained teachers will be tried under article 438 of the Ukrainian Code – “violation of the laws and customs of war.” She also noted that the detained teachers will not be included in the exchange fund of prisoners, because “the Geneva Conventions do not provide for exchanges of non-prisoners of war.”
As for the Ukrainian teachers who agreed to work according to the Russian school curriculum, they will have to answer to the law for collaborative activities, the Deputy Prime Minister added. She urged Ukrainian teachers in other regions “not to cooperate in any way”, but to evacuate to the territories controlled by Kiev.
Earlier, Russian journalist Sergei Mardan was criticized by his leadership when he called on the radio to create an analogue of the GULAG in the Zaporozhye region for Ukrainian teachers who refused to teach children according to the Russian program.
