Vladimir Zelensky’s decree was published on the website of the Office of the President of Ukraine, by which he removed Major General Nikolai Zhirnov from the post of head of the Kiev City Military Administration.
Zhirnom was appointed to this post on March 1, 2022. His duties included the defense of the Ukrainian capital.
Colonel-General Serhiy Popko, who is already 61 years old and who was previously the commander of the Land Forces of Ukraine, has been appointed to this post. He was retired on May 7, 2020.
According to Zelensky, this personnel decision “will contribute to strengthening the defense and security of the capital.”
