President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, in an interview dedicated to the third anniversary of his inauguration, said that he expects to exchange prisoners from the Azovstal plant.
He explained that the militants came out after they received a signal that they could come out and save their lives.
“Then everything depends on what the UN, the ICRC, and the Russian Federation undertook when they promised that they would be safe and expect one or another format of exchange,” Zelensky said.
Earlier, the deputy permanent representative of Russia to the UN Dmitry Polyansky reported that the militants locked in the catacombs of the Azovstal plant surrendered without any conditions. No one promised them an exchange.
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, as of May 20, 2,439 militants of the extremist battalion “Azov” banned in Russia and the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces laid down their weapons. They stayed in the basements of the factory for about a month.
