Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia cannot locate its military bases in Cuba and Venezuela, as these countries seek to break out of isolation and restore normal relations with the United States.

“Venezuela and Cuba are our partners, countries close to us that conduct an independent foreign policy. But these are absolutely sovereign countries. We cannot place anything on their territory, because such actions must be consistent with their geopolitical positioning and their own national interests,” he added.

Medvedev clarified that Venezuela and Cuba want to get out of isolation and restore normal relations with America. In this regard, we are not talking about the deployment of Russian military bases on the territory of these countries.

According to him, it is wrong to talk about the placement of bases. This can provoke tension in the world.

“We have certain agreements with some states on the presence of our troops there, for example, with Syria. But to get ahead of ourselves and say that we want to place our military base here is wrong and can provoke tension in the world,” he stressed.
