The joint Russian-American resolution on humanitarian assistance to Syria, adopted by the UN Security Council, is a historic one. This was stated by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzia at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
The Russian permanent Representative stressed that the United States and Russia were not only able to agree among themselves, but also worked out a joint text that was supported by all members of the UN Security Council. “We are present at a historic moment,” Nebenzia said, expressing confidence that the resolution will be a turning point in the future fate of Syria and the Middle East as a whole.
The Permanent Representative also noted that the resolution focuses on supplies through the contact lines. The UN will control the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Recall that the resolution on the supply of humanitarian aid was developed by Russia, the United States, Norway and Ireland. The document provides for the extension of the Bab al-Hawa checkpoint on the Syrian-Turkish border for another twelve months.
