Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said at a conference at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Caribbean crisis that Russian-American relations have not yet reached their lowest level. He expressed hope that Russia and the United States, despite all the difficulties, are not on the threshold of a nuclear conflict.
“There are many additional factors and moments that did not exist before,” the diplomat said. “The feeling is that we have not yet reached the lowest level in Russian-American relations.”
Every day, what is still warm in the contacts between the two states, according to him, “is fading more and more.”
“I want to believe that we have not approached the dangerous threshold of a nuclear conflict with the Americans,” the ambassador said. “Russia is committed to the formula that there can be no winners in a nuclear war,” Antonov stressed.
