According to Politico, citing a source in diplomatic circles, the Hungarian authorities are asking the European Union to lift sanctions against Russian businessmen Alisher Usmanov, Peter Aven and Viktor Rashnikov.
“Hungary insists that three Russian citizens be excluded from the European sanctions list,” the publication clarifies. The source explained that it is about Usamnov, Aven and Rashnikov.
It is also noted that such a request from Budapest “infuriated” EU members, who must agree on the extension of restrictions on sanctioned persons by September 15. According to the interlocutor, Hungary’s demands will be discussed during a meeting on September 7 dedicated to the situation in Ukraine.
