Bulgaria fell into the gas “trap” of Russia due to the fact that it received an advance payment for gas transit in advance. This was stated by the Bulgarian gas development specialist, engineer Hristo Kazandzhiev in an interview with the local newspaper “Maritsa”.
Kazandzhiev noted that Bulgaria cannot block transit through the Balkan Stream gas pipeline passing through its territory. The fact is that a few months ago, the energy company Bulgartransgaz received an advance payment for the next two years. He also accused the company of “playing in the Gazprom team.”
“Bulgaria has fallen into a trap under the plausible pretext of reducing costs,” he said.
At the same time, the expert expressed confidence that the country can return the advance received to Russia and close the transit, but there is no consensus in the government on this matter.
Recall that Gazprom stopped gas supplies to Bulgargaz at the end of April due to refusal to pay in rubles.
