IAEA: North Korea could resume operation of a nuclear reactor

According to the data of the report of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the North Korean authorities could decide to resume the operation of a nuclear reactor for the production of plutonium in the Yongbyon area, the Wall Street Journal newspaper reports.

“Since the beginning of July, indirect signs have appeared (for example, the discharge of cooling water) indicating the operation of the reactor in Yongbyon County in the North Korean province of Pyeongan-Pukto,” the IAEA report says.

Experts admit that this reactor was most likely idle in the period from December 2018 to the beginning of July 2021.
