Belarus — so now in the official documents of the Kingdom of Norway Belarus will be called instead of Hviterussland (White Russia: from the Norwegian hvite — white and Russland — Russia), as it was before.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeld wrote about the changes on her page in the social network.
As the diplomat noted, Norway stopped using the name Hviterussland in Norwegian on the International Day of Solidarity with Belarus.
The Foreign Minister also added that “I was happy to tell the leader of the democratic movement Svetlana Tikhanovskaya about it yesterday.”
Huitfeld wrote: “We support the struggle of the Belarusian people for freedom and democracy.”
Earlier, they stopped calling Belarus “White Russia” in Sweden and Denmark.
