The founder of the Telegram channel Nexta, recognized as extremist in Belarus, Roman Protasevich commented on the activities of the country’s president Alexander Lukashenko.
According to Protasevich, ” if a person could withstand such a huge pressure, then it probably says a lot”. “From the point of view of a person, as a person, yes, his steadfastness is respected,” he admitted in the story of the Belarusian channel STV.
Foreign Minister of the Republic Vladimir Makei also spoke about the work of the President. According to him, he has worked with Lukashenka for more than 20 years. He stressed that “I have never met such a person who would love his country so much”.
Earlier, Protasevich told about how he learned about the planning of a coup in the republic. According to him, the team of the former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya has nothing to do with it. At the same time, Protasevich himself admitted that he knew many people who spoke about the attempted violent coup. In other words, they were conspirators.
In an interview with Lithuanian opposition politician Algirdas Paleckis, Protasevich noted that Tikhanovskaya was scared when she heard about such a proposal and decided not to do anything in this direction.
Protasevich was detained at the Minsk airport after the forced landing of a Ryanair plane en route from Athens to Vilnius in May 2021. In Belarus, he was accused of organizing mass riots after the presidential election in August 2020. Later, he agreed to cooperate with the investigation. Shortly after that, he was transferred from the pre-trial detention center to house arrest.
