The Russian Foreign Ministry posted a post on social networks dedicated to the 77th anniversary of “one of the monstrous tragedies in the history of mankind” – the atomic bombing of the Japanese city of Hiroshima. On August 6, 1945, the US Air Force for the first time tested the effectiveness of the newly created atomic weapons on the civilian population. At about 8:00, a US Air Force Enola Gay plane dropped a bomb over Hiroshima”Baby.” It exploded in the air, at an altitude of 576 meters from the ground. Almost 80 thousand people died immediately. Tens of thousands died later from burns and radiation. The Russian Foreign Ministry quoted Sergey Lavrov: “Even with clear ideas about the origins and course of the Second World War, it is difficult to fully understand what guided those who planned and carried out such an inhumane act.”
On August 8, the United States repeated a monstrous experiment, dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. Up to 80 thousand people died there.
It is believed that by using atomic weapons, the United States wanted to make the Soviet Union more compliant at the post-war conference in Potsdam. The USSR had atomic weapons only in 1949.
