The maneuvers involve carriers of “Daggers” and strategic aviation
On June 25, the Russian Navy and the Aerospace Forces began a joint exercise in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. The maneuvers coincided with an incident off the coast of Crimea, where a British destroyer staged a provocation, violating the maritime border of Russia. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, combat ships of the permanent task force of the Russian Navy, as well as maritime and long-range aviation aircraft, are participating in the exercise in the Mediterranean Sea.

Pairs of MiG-31K aircraft flew to the Russian airbase “Khmeimim” in Syria. These are carriers of hypersonic missiles “Dagger”. In addition, an Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft from the naval aviation of the Navy has been relocated there.
Five ships of the Russian Navy are involved in the manners, including the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, the missile cruiser Moscow, the latest frigates Admiral Essen and Admiral Makarov, as well as two submarines Stary Oskol and Rostov-on-Don. Aviation is represented by anti-submarine aircraft Tu-142MK, Il-38, long-range bombers Tu-22M3 and MiG-31K aircraft
The Navy and the VKS will work out actions to ensure the security of the Khmeimim air base and the logistics point of the Russian Navy Tartus in Syria.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the latest military equipment is being tested in difficult climatic conditions due to the influence of high temperatures. Flight crews will work out their piloting skills in new geographical areas.
Earlier it was reported that the second runway was reconstructed at the Khmeimim airbase, which allows even strategic aircraft, as well as carriers of the latest missile weapons, to be received here. The crews will be able to work out tasks in the airspace over the Mediterranean Sea.
