Any attempts by NATO to take Kaliningrad from the Russian Federation may lead to a military clash, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Jabarov said in a conversation with RBC, commenting on the words of former Latvian Interior Minister Maris Gulbis about the readiness of the alliance and the European Union to take Kaliningrad from Russia.

“I don’t think NATO doesn’t understand this,” Jabarov said, stressing that Lithuania and Poland should be the first to think about this, since they are the first in this case, “who will seriously get into this meat grinder.”

The senator believes that the words of the Latvian ex-minister may be “probing Russia for determination, firmness”. According to Dzhabarov, the West should not “delude itself”, because the Russian Federation will not cede its territories.
