Joint Azerbaijani-Turkish tactical exercises with live firing “Mustafa Kemal Ataturk-2021″have begun in Baku. They were not previously announced.
According to the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, they are held in accordance with the agreement on cooperation in the military sphere concluded between Baku and Ankara. The exercises will last until June 30. They involve up to 600 personnel, as well as about 40 tanks and other armored vehicles. In addition, about 20 artillery pieces and mortars of various calibers, seven combat andtransport helicopters. Three unmanned aerial vehicles, about 50 units of automotive equipment are involved.
The main purpose of the exercises is to ” improve the interaction of the units of the armies of the two countries during combat operations.” They are also designed to ensure the development of “military decision-making and unit management skills” among commanders.
