The United States is preparing a resolution calling for the abandonment of anti-satellite missile tests. The United States intends to present it to the UN in September. This was announced at a meeting of the National Space Council by Vice President Kamala Harris.

This meeting was the second during Biden’s presidency. The National Space Council did not meet for a long time and was restored only under his predecessor, Trump. The Council is traditionally headed by the Vice President of the United States.

For the first time, Harris spoke about anti-satellite missiles in April, during a visit to the Vandenberg Space Force Base. She spoke about plans to introduce a moratorium on testing of this type of weapons. The Vice President stressed that such tests are dangerous.

Harris noted that Washington wants to establish new rules in space. The head of NASA, Bill Nelson, also called on other countries to abandon testing of anti-satellite missiles. In response, Dmitry Rogozin, who was then in charge of Roscosmos, said that the actions of the United States were inconsistent. He also suggested that we first respond to the proposals of Moscow and Beijing on a treaty on the non-deployment of weapons in outer space.
