The United States is concerned about the visit of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet to China, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said. The corresponding statement was distributed by the State Department.
Bachelet has been in China on a visit since May 23.
According to Blinken, the Chinese authorities may try to “limit her visit and manipulate it.” In addition, the American side believes that “the conditions during the visit did not allow for a full assessment of the human rights situation in China.” The conditions of the visit in Washington were called “imposed”, and they said that the residents of Xinjiang were pressured not to tell the truth about the living conditions.
During the visit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a meeting with Bachelet that China hopes that the current visit of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights will be able to dispel lies and rumors about the human rights situation in China.
