The demand of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to admit the country to the European Union as soon as possible cannot be fulfilled, observers of The American Conservative (TAC) believe.
Earlier, Zelensky called for Ukraine to be admitted to the European Union as soon as possible under a “new special scheme.”
“There is simply no such procedure for admission to the EU,” the authors said.
“In just a few weeks, Kiev has coped with the steps to join the community, which countries such as Finland, Austria and Sweden spent about three years on,” they added.
TAC observers also noted that the “special scheme for the admission of Kiev” will require appropriate legislation, which will be difficult to develop due to the lack of unanimity among the 27 active members of the association.
Earlier, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said that no exceptions should be made for the steps that Ukraine should take before joining the EU. And the Minister is a delegate to French Foreign Ministry for European Affairs Clement Bon noted that the process of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union may last 15-20 years.
