Today, Russia celebrates the Day of Airborne Troops

On the second of August, the Day of Airborne Troops is celebrated in Russia, this Tuesday the 92nd anniversary of the formation of the Airborne Forces will be counted. The Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, addressed congratulations to the former and current representatives of the “winged infantry” on the department’s website.

In the festive order, the minister noted that throughout its history, the Airborne Troops have been the guarantor of Russia’s security. And now, taking part in a special military operation, paratroopers act boldly, competently and decisively, constantly confirming their readiness and ability to solve the most difficult tasks in combat conditions.

The official Telegram channel of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation recalled the history of the airborne forces from separate airborne detachments as part of the Air Force to an independent branch of the Armed Forces, which is the elite of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

For the first time, the parachute landing of personnel was carried out on August 2, 1930 at the exercises of the Moscow Military District. It is this number that is considered to be the birthday of the Airborne Forces.

In September 1941, the Airborne Forces became an independent branch of the armed forces. Later, being the reserve of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the paratroopers repeatedly performed complex combat missions in Afghanistan, in the first and second Chechen companies, and also participated in restoring constitutional order in the former Soviet republics, peacekeeping operations in the Balkans and forcing Georgia to peace, where they again showed their high skill and courage.

It is noted that on the 92nd anniversary of the formation of the Airborne Troops, the command of the Airborne Forces, formations and military units planned an extensive range of festive events.

Separately, the paratroopers and veterans of the troops were congratulated on their professional holiday by the Commander of the Airborne Forces, Colonel-General Mikhail Teplinsky.
