UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that international disarmament treaties signed at the end of the last century were under threat.
“We are witnessing a new arms race,” the Secretary General said during a visit to Hiroshima on the anniversary of the nuclear bombing.
Guterres expressed hope that the conference of States supporting the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, held at the UN headquarters, will have positive results. The Secretary General noted that he sees “movement in the right direction.”
