According to The Wall Street Journal newspaper, citing informed sources among American officials, the US authorities do not exclude that a special forces detachment will be sent to Ukraine to protect the US embassy in Kiev.
“American military and diplomatic officials are considering plans to send special forces to Kiev to protect the newly opened embassy there”, – the message says.
It is clarified that this prospect may force the administration of President Biden to “balance” between the desire to avoid escalation due to the US military presence in the combat zone and the security of American diplomats.
So far, this proposal has not been submitted to the head of state for consideration. But if Biden does approve it, sources emphasize that American special forces will be deployed only to protect and secure the embassy.
