The Belarusian authorities have introduced counter-sanctions in response to the restrictive measures applied against Minsk. According to the country’s Foreign Ministry, the government has banned the import of a number of goods from states that have implemented anti-Belarusian sanctions. The ministry noted that measures will be taken to saturate the domestic market — it is planned to attract similar goods “from friendly countries.”

In addition, “in response to illegitimate restrictions against the Belarusian aviation industry,” Minsk announced the introduction of restrictions for foreign airlines — from the EU and the UK.

The Belarusian side has also expanded the lists of persons who are prohibited from entering its territory, as well as the territory of the Union State.

“A number of other non-public steps will be implemented,” the Foreign Ministry added.

The agency did not disclose details on the imposed sanctions, it is indicated that the relevant government decree “will be signed as soon as possible.”
