Sovfed: a third of those who have had covid cannot return to their former lives

A third of patients who have been ill with covid are unable to return to their former lives, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Galina Karelova said at a meeting of the Council for the Development of Social Innovations of the Subjects of the Russian Federation.

She stressed that, taking into account the number of Russians who have been ill, rehabilitation after covid is of particular importance. The consequences of the disease are no less serious than the disease itself.

“According to experts, a third of patients who have undergone coronavirus cannot return to their usual lifestyle. Up to 25% of those who have been treated in hospital do not return to their previous work for health reasons, and 29% of those discharged from intensive care units and after intensive care have a high risk of death from complications within three months after the illness, Karelova said.

The Vice Speaker added that the consequences of covid will affect the demographic and socio-economic situation in the country. A comprehensive systematic approach is needed for the rehabilitation of coronavirus patients, she summarized.
