Dmitry Polyansky, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, said that the West may be preparing a provocation in the Donbas in order to accuse Russia of “invading” Ukraine.

“I will not rule out such a scenario, since it can be traced to the baseless hysteria that is being whipped up around the presence of Russian troops on the territory of our state,” he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

At the same time, Polyansky expressed hope that the West will have enough “prudence not to go to such a scheme.” In Russia, they hope that “common sense will prevail and this will not happen.”

According to him, the persistence and frenzy of a number of countries to promote “false or unverified information” is very alarming.

“I believe that in such conditions the risk of military provocation increases significantly,” Polyansky added.
