Most of the waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the airspace above it are “closed” for the large-scale NATO exercises “Neptune Strike – 2022”.
NATO has begun exercises with the American carrier strike group together with the forces of other allies in the alliance. They are practicing coordinated maneuvers in the Mediterranean.
The exercise, called Neptune Strike ’22, has been underway since 2020 and is not intended to test any potential scenarios related to Ukraine, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said on Friday.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Monday, January 24, that “these exercises will help demonstrate the unity, capabilities and strength of the transatlantic alliance.”
