According to former Vice-Chancellor of Austria Heinz-Christian Strache, he was frightened by the statement of ex-Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel about the true goals of the Minsk agreements. He stressed that such a statement by Merkel undermines faith in the power of the word of European politicians.
“Former German Chancellor Merkel said… that the Minsk agreements were not taken seriously, that they were adopted to give the Ukrainian authorities time to prepare for a possible military conflict. It is frightening with what frankness Frau Merkel speaks about it… Thus, we destroy any basis for trust,” he stressed during a speech at a round table in Vienna, where the Ukrainian crisis was discussed.
