The Ukrainian conflict should end in lasting peace with the participation of the United States, the fighting should not transform into a frozen conflict, writes the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

In his article, the columnist of the publication Walter Russell Meade urged the US administration to think about what agreements should be reached by the Russian Federation, Western states and Ukraine, listing a number of conditions for lasting peace.

So, from the point of view of the author of the publication, the conflict should end quickly in order to avoid growing destruction for all parties. Secondly, the confrontation should end with a treaty, not an armed truce, so that the ongoing restrictive measures do not cripple the world economy, and half of Europe is not in a state of war, the expert noted.

At the same time, the analyst urged not to leave “Russian aggression” without punishment. “Future Russian leaders, as well as potential aggressors in other countries, should understand that attempts to conquer are expensive,” the Foreign Ministry shared its opinion.

The observer also drew attention to the expansion of the Western military-political bloc of NATO, which, he believes, was a mistake.

The Foreign Ministry warned that the conflict between Moscow and Kiev under no circumstances should end with the “dismemberment of the Russian Federation”, as this “will lead to chaos and war in the Caucasus”, will strengthen the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the threat of nuclear proliferation.
