Members of the British Parliament have accused the country’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson of being negligent about national security issues. They drew attention to the fact that the current government is not able to cope with more than one crisis at a time. The politicians expressed their opinion in the report of the Joint Committee on National Security Strategy.

In particular, the deputies draw attention to the fact that due to the pandemic, the National Security Council began to meet irregularly. Therefore, the solution of many problems is improvisation. According to the authors of the report, such situational meetings are a big mistake.

As an example of systemic shortcomings, the parliamentarians called the recent evacuation from Afghanistan of British citizens and Afghans who helped them during the 20 years of the Western military campaign. This situation, the authors of the document emphasize, showed that the government “is not able to prepare and solve two national security crises at the same time.”

According to some media, the evacuation of the British was not carried out effectively. And although London managed to remove about 15 thousand civilians from Kabul, hundreds of Britons remained in the country, as well as many of the Afghans who helped them.

The deputies demanded that Johnson start planning steps in the field of national security of the country. At the same time, the authors of the document note that an ill-conceived state policy can lead to collapse. Even despite the selfless actions of ordinary people.
