The Greek newspaper Eleftheros Tipos reported that the country will begin replacing Russian-made weapons with NATO weapons in the coming weeks. Washington has been trying for several years to get Athens to refuse to purchase Soviet-made and Russian-made weapons and to acquire American ones. As RIA Novosti clarifies, on the eve of the newspaper “Kathimerini” reported on another US proposal to replace Russian-made weapons, mainly Russian S-300 and Tor-M1 air defense systems in service in Greece.

Eleftheros Tipos reports that in the coming weeks the “liberation” from Russian air defense systems and their replacement with American ones will begin, “which should have been done a long time ago.” According to the newspaper, there are still problems to speed up the process due to the Russian SVO, which will not end quickly.

At the same time, the publication points to positive examples of Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia, which handed over Russian and Soviet defense systems to Ukraine, and in return received mostly American ones.

“It is implied that due to the sensitivity of the issue, the Turkish provocation and so on, the Americans will provide us with Patriot systems, or other allies will be able to strengthen us, for example, the French, Italians and, which is quite difficult, the Israelis,” the author of the article argues, recalling, by the way, that in the last 2-3 years NATO is committed to the uniformity and interoperability of weapons systems and the complete abandonment of Russian weapons.

“Turkey does not seem to agree with this position because of the supply and deployment of S-400 systems,” the newspaper writes.
